Dahi or curd or yogurt is very important in any Indian household and in the Hindu homes, the cow is in fact worshipped (in good old days every household used to have at least one cow which they used to take care of well for the milk it would yield). Krishna the Indian God was brought up as a cowherd and he is always depicted with cows and or Gopis around him!! And no wonder he loved butter and curd and used to steal and it as a little boy and was aptly called a "Makhan chor" meaning "Butter thief" (literally).
And here's what a pot of yoghurt means in India on Krishna's birthday. Krishna is one of the most favourite Gods of Indian Hindus.
